The SP 70-C-9 and 70-C-10 tenders were among the most common small Vanderbilt oil tenders used by Southern Pacific, particularly in switching and light road service. Compact, rugged, and ubiquitous, these tenders were paired with a wide range of SP switchers and smaller road engines and became a familiar sight across yards, terminals, and branch lines system-wide.

Among the two subclasses, the 70-C-9 was by far the most numerous, with the 70-C-10 also widely used, making these tenders an essential detail for accurately modeling Southern Pacific steam operations from the prewar years through the transition era.

This N-scale kit reproduces SP’s smallest Vanderbilt oil tenders in high-resolution 3D-printed resin, capturing the correct proportions and SP-specific details while remaining easy to assemble and modern-friendly.
